BACKPACK FRIENDS
BackPack Friends provides nutritional meals and snacks to children who may need a little extra over the weekend. By supplying these bags, our goal is to assist in meeting their nutritional, mental and overall well-being needs. The number of children in need is growing on a daily basis so we need your continued support! BackPack Friends delivers over 800 backpacks of food to children in 22 schools throughout Carteret, Craven, Onslow, and Jones counties each week. All packed by caring volunteers with 100% donated food supplies at an annual cost of almost $288,000.
HOPE MISSION
CCPC has a long term relationship with Hope Mission (a non-profit organization located in Morehead City that is committed to sheltering the homeless, feeding the hungry, provide emergency assistance and offering recovery services). Members of CCPC volunteer in the community kitchen, cook and deliver meals for those staying overnight, and sitting and sharing with those they have served.
BROAD STREET CLINIC
The clinic provides medical assistance to those who are low income or do not have insurance. CCPC supports this Morehead City ministry both financially and with volunteers.
HEM OF HIS GARMENT
The Hem is a non-profit organization that CCPC helped found and is a partner in ministry with. The Hem provides everything from a food pantry to utility assistance. In addition, it runs a thriving thrift store which underwrites the majority of its local mission support. Members of CCPC volunteer on a weekly basis.
COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY
Each October CCPC sets aside a Saturday to go out into the community in a big way! Typically there are a menu of service choices for folks and families to choose from. Currently we send a large group to do a sweep of our beloved beaches, a group travels to the Hem of His Garment to help wherever they have need, and a group prepares dinner and delivers it to those who are homeless and staying overnight at Hope Mission. In addition, we provide activities in the church that include packing Love in the Glovebox kits (hygiene and convenience kits) for the homeless and those in need and preparing Thanksgiving cards for our military community.
Individuals, families, or groups may provide a meal for families of inpatients
PRESBYTERIAN MEN OF THE CHURCH OUTREACH MINISTRY
The CCPC men are committed to serving the church family and the community. Some of the different ways they share their talents and experience are as follows:
Transportation to doctors, grocery, etc.
Check smoke detector batteries
Minor household repairs (fixing door hinges, hanging pictures or shelves, etc.)
Minor electrical (changing light bulbs, replacing outlets, etc.)
Minor plumbing (unstopping drains, repairing garden hose, etc.)
Yard work (raking leaves, pressure washing sidewalks, trimming plants, etc.)
Gardening (minor tilling, planting, etc.)
ANNUAL SWEETHEART BANQUET
If you have a need of their services or know someone who does, please contact the church office.
ANGEL TREE
Every year around Christmas we turn to the guidance of our local elementary schools. They provide us with a list of children (no names) who will not be able to celebrate Christmas for various reasons. Their needs are placed on an Angel Tree and members and friends of CCPC are invited to take an angel from the tree, purchase the requested gift, and return it to the church. It is very humbling to watch our atrium swell with gifts for children who will have little to no Christmas.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
To get involved in any of the opportunities listed above and many others not listed … please contact the church office or email [email protected].
